Pokemon is a phenomenon that has captured the hearts and imaginations of millions of fans. The Pokemon Company (The Pokemon Company is a Japanese company that makes video games for the portable and home consoles) has launched several games based on the Pokemon franchise. The latest game, Pokemon GO, is the first game based on Pokemon that allows players to interact with the Pokemon universe in real life. Why should you play the game? Well, the game is fun to play and it puts a new spin on the traditional concept of catching Pokemon.
To go with the themes from the previous post, I’m going to start off with a quick summary of the new features of Unite and their relevance. (If you don’t know what Unite is yet, please go to the Pokemon Unite page on the site and read up on it.) The first thing to note is that the “Unite” in the title is a reference to the fact that this is a game built around the idea of Uniting two games into one: for those of you who’ve played Pokemon Ruby or Sapphire, you’ll notice that Unite will take place in the Johto region, and will include new characters and features specific to that area.
If you love Pokemon and you love battling, then this is the game for you. Released on the 21st of November, Pokemon Unite is the first Pokemon game to be free to play. With over 300 Pokemon to choose from, you can be confident that you will be able to find a team that suits your play style. Pokemon Unite also has an amazing community of players to help you along your journey. Join in their daily battles for rewards and advice.
For you to truly dig deep into and become a Pokemon expert, we’ve included some of our best Pokemon Unite advice below. Understanding that just because something exists on the Internet doesn’t mean you have to follow it is one of the things that Pokemon Unite teaches you. As a result, most of this tutorial focuses on learning how to enjoy the game and perform well in ranked while single queuing.
Pokemon Roles Should Be Ignored
Many guides will advise you to stick to the builds and perform activities that revolve on the Pokemon’s designated duties, which are:
- Attacker: Fights against other players.
- Defender: Zone Surveillance
- Speedster: A person who moves quickly.
- Healer / Debuffer Supporter
- All-Rounder: Adaptable
The reality is that all Pokemon are adaptable and may be customized to do any task. Sure, certain numbers may be different, but it doesn’t mean you have to do just xyz in the game. Unlike other MOBAs, Pokemon Unite isn’t too rigid about this Pokemon having to perform this activity or otherwise. You’ll win a lot more because you’ll be more involved if you do whatever you like.
Don’t Forget About Your Held Items (Equipment) and Leveling Them
You had this big board that you had to put runes on that provided you micro-boosts in League of Legends a long time ago, I believe it was called a rune board. You have items that give you a boost to certain attacks / stats or do other things like share EXP, etc., in a similar way. You can raise them up to level 30, which is their maximum level and gives them the most boost, but don’t worry about that.
You don’t have to be concerned about the number of things you have in your possession.
Why? Because I’ve won games after games after games while wearing no gear at all. So, I’m not the greatest player in the world; I’m probably okay, but it doesn’t really matter. Hyperfocusing on gear and leveling it won’t harm you all that much. There’s no need to spend actual money on it either; Aeos Tickets are earned just by playing.
Oh, and don’t listen to the other tutorials that say you should concentrate your held item on your Pokemon’s function. Concentrate on what works best for your playstyle and the attacks you choose.
Builds should be flexible.
There’s a lot of hyperbole about how xyz build is *the build* you should use in every game, but that’s not the case. The simplicity of Pokemon Unite’s leveling system gives you a smidgeon of freedom in a game. You may discover that the opponent is always team fighting, in which case an AOE will serve you much better than the “better” option. Don’t make the mistake of assuming you’ll lose because of what you’ve read about a particular Pokemon on the internet. That’s not to imply there aren’t builds out there, or that you shouldn’t use them; it just means you should concentrate on understanding your Pokemon’s abilities and knowing when to adjust. It will significantly improve your victory rate.
Remember to Score Points!
When the opponent isn’t defending, keep an eye on the map and go score. Yes, you get more points at the end, but you’re just as likely to die 2 minutes in with 30 Aeos Energy ready to be scored. Go over to a target point that is simply relaxing and throw your focus into it. Return to farming after that. That 20 or so Aeos Energy may sometimes decide the game!
Get to Know Your Pokemon
For each Pokemon you play, learn its ability and what it accomplishes. It’s critical to understand what you’re doing and what to choose when playing. As previously said, build instructions are useful, but knowing your Pokemon is much better. If you want to win in Ranked, this is crucial since it will give you at least a level advantage over everyone else, and it will frequently put you ahead because you will know what your Pokemon is doing.
Sure, you can figure it out by playing, but knowing about it before playing will help a lot.

Random Suggestions
A mishmash of suggestions:
- Chasing isn’t as terrible as it is in other MOBAs; in fact, if you have a slow Pokemon, it’s often preferable to pursue and complete the battle than than running back.
- In Pokemon Unite, losing all of your HP isn’t the worst thing since getting knocked out just sends you back to spawn (with a quick respawn period) and you lose your Aeos Energy, which may be beneficial or detrimental.
- Use the handy fast commands to communicate with your colleagues. Pings are controlled via the − button on the Switch.
- Make a case for your position. Anyone heading to a capture point is likely carrying a lot of Aeo Energy, so take them out, grab their energy, and score on them.
- Keep your eyes peeled for the map. It’s useful to have a visual representation of the field.
- Use our Tier List to help you choose the best Pokemon to play.
